Meet Sofie and her role as a project leader at Hectaar
Behind every successful project is a driven team of professionals. Today, we are putting Sofie in the spotlight. As a project manager, she plays a crucial role in the realization of our new residential builds. Get to know Sofie and learn more about her contribution to Hectaar.
Could you introduce yourself?
I’m Sofie, 29 years old. After studying industrial engineering in Ghent, I started as a site manager in industrial construction, where I further developed my technical skills. A few years ago, I decided to transition to project development and residential construction. It's special to help build our clients' dreams, which makes my work particularly interesting.
In my spare time, I enjoy being active. Whether it’s sports, discovering new places, or enjoying new experiences. I prefer doing this with friends or family, with good food and drinks. That’s my ideal way to relax and recharge my energy.
What role do you play at Hectaar and how long have you been active?
Since 2021, I have been a project manager at Hectaar, a role that offers a lot of variety, from office work to site visits. I am responsible for the implementation of projects, from the study phase to delivery. I work closely with the sales department and manage a team of subcontractors to deliver the homes on time. It’s a dynamic job, with new challenges every day, making the work always varied.
Which achievements are you particularly proud of?
It’s hard to choose one specific highlight, but what makes me the most proud is the end result: satisfied clients and beautifully finished homes. This success is due to the great collaboration with my colleagues and our reliable subcontractors.
How does Hectaar work towards a positive team culture?
At Hectaar, dedication, motivation, and teamwork are central. Besides hard work, there’s plenty of room for fun and relaxation. We organize an annual team building and enjoy pleasant moments like a beer on Friday evenings, a Saint Nicholas snack, an Easter breakfast, a barbecue, and even watching Red Devils football matches. These informal activities strengthen the bond within our team and create a pleasant working atmosphere.
What advice would you give to new colleagues?
My advice? Be curious and ask questions! Dare to take the initiative and seize every opportunity to learn, both from the job and your colleagues. At Hectaar, you not only work on amazing projects, but you also build your own growth.
What are you most looking forward to in your future at Hectaar?
I’m excited to contribute to the further development of our ‘custom-build’ projects. Setting up a brochure, manual, and other tools is a challenge I’m eager to take on, so we can make our approach even more efficient. The prospect of further developing this branch greatly motivates me.
What is your favorite Hectaar project from the current offerings?
My favorite project currently for sale is the subdivision on Batterijstraat in De Haan. I’m currently working on preparations for the houses, while my colleague completed the demolition of the existing structures and the archaeological study. The project includes three semi-detached houses and four building plots for standalone custom-build projects. The homes are built along a new road, with a strong focus on green landscaping, creating a pleasant and sustainable living environment. It’s enjoyable to contribute to projects that enhance both the living quality and aesthetics of the region.
What is your Hectaar Highlight?
My Hectaar highlight so far is the recent move to our new office building, Blue Block. It was a moment we were all looking forward to and felt like a true milestone. The modern building reflects the ambitions and forward-looking vision of Hectaar and provides the perfect foundation for the team to grow further. What makes it extra special is the interior with warm wood accents, providing a stylish and homely atmosphere. The new office is not just a space, but a place that enhances the energy and enthusiasm of the company.
