Meet Louis and his role as project leader at Hectaar
Every day, our dedicated team commits with great devotion to realizing our new construction homes. Today, we spotlight Louis. He has been working as a project leader at Hectaar for two years. Meet Louis and discover more about his contribution within Hectaar.
Could you introduce yourself?
I'm Louis, 25 years old, born and raised in Zwevezele. After my studies in Industrial Engineering in Construction at the University of Ghent, I'm now putting my passion for building into practice at Hectaar. My hobbies change with the seasons. In the winter, I play café football with the Rickvrienden in Zwevezele on Sunday mornings. When the weather is nice, I love going for a long bike ride with friends or going for a run in nature. In the summer, you can also often find me on the tennis or padel court. Sports are my way of clearing my head after a busy week.
What role do you play at Hectaar and how long have you been active?
Since September 2022, I have been working as a project leader at Hectaar. I manage projects from A to Z in both West and East Flanders, from the initial studies to the finishing touches. The work comes with a lot of responsibility: from groundwork to coordinating with various subcontractors. What I especially enjoy is the variety and contact with different people—such as contractors, clients, and engineers. Every day is a new challenge, and that dynamic gives me great satisfaction. My days are a mix of site visits and administrative tasks, providing a nice balance.
How did you end up at Hectaar?
During my studies and internships, I gained experience in both industrial construction and apartment building, but my heart was set on new construction and renovation projects for homes. A good friend, who is himself active in purchasing new building plots, told me about Hectaar. He encouraged me to apply here, and it proved to be a perfect fit. It immediately felt like the right choice.
Which achievements are you particularly proud of?
The project I am most proud of is the development of 30 semi-detached houses in Damme (Sijsele). What makes this project unique is the variety in housing types and the focus on greenery in the neighborhood. Additionally, all homes are equipped with an air-water heat pump, making them not only beautiful but also ready for a sustainable future. It was a challenging journey, but seeing satisfied residents at the delivery made it all worthwhile.
How does Hectaar work on a positive team culture?
At Hectaar, we value a good working atmosphere. The monthly spinning sessions after work certainly contribute to this. Exercising together is a fun way to get to know your colleagues better. And of course, a beer on Friday after a busy week is not to be missed. These informal moments ensure a positive team spirit.
What advice would you give to new colleagues?
The most important advice I can give is to always stay calm. Sometimes it’s good to take a step back to keep an overview. Especially in the beginning, it can be a lot to process all the information at once, but know that your colleagues are always ready to help. We really work as a team. Don't be afraid to ask contractors for advice. Their practical insights are often invaluable.
What are you most looking forward to in your future at Hectaar?
I hope to further develop in various areas: both technically and in terms of communication and commercial skills. I want to keep growing and learn something new every day.
What is your favorite Hectaar project from the current offerings?
My favorite project is undoubtedly the new office building along the E403. I can’t wait for the move to this new building and to be under one roof with other companies. It will be exciting to see them join us in the 'Blue Block'.
What is your Hectaar Highlight?
My personal highlight is the positive feedback from clients after delivery. Five-star reviews from satisfied residents are truly amazing. After working on a project for months, there’s nothing better than concluding it in such a positive way.
