The H-team: Meet Riet

For three years now, Riet has been a key member of the Hectaar team as a marketer. With her enthusiasm, creativity and sharp eye for what works, she helps build a strong and recognizable brand experience every single day. She makes sure Hectaar’s story is told clearly and consistently — both online and offline. Curious what motivates her day after day? Discover her story.

Could you introduce yourself?

My name is Riet Vermeersch, I’m 27, and I live in the lovely city of Kortrijk with two friends. In my free time, I love exploring new places and cultures. Travelling has always fascinated me — from short city breaks to long trips across the world. I also like to make time for friends and family. Sitting still really isn’t my thing: you’ll often find me on the running track, on a padel court, or in a spinning, pilates or dance class. For me, sport is the perfect way to recharge.

What role do you play within Hectaar and how long have you been active here?

Since November 2022, I’ve been responsible for marketing at Hectaar. In this role, I help strengthen and increase the visibility of our brand every day. I combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution, which brings a lot of variety. My tasks range from social media, website management and digital campaigns to creating brochures, graphic design, copywriting, data analysis, photography and organizing events for clients and colleagues. No day is ever the same.

I also work closely with colleagues from different teams, especially the sales department. This collaboration is essential to react quickly and address new needs. What I appreciate most is the trust and freedom I get to test new formats and adjust when needed.

How did you end up at Hectaar?

After studying communication sciences and business economics at Ghent University, I decided to travel first. I spent six months in Asia — an experience full of new impressions that also gave me space to reflect on what really mattered in my first job. I knew I wanted to work in marketing, with responsibility, challenge and variety — and above all, in an environment where I would feel good and could be myself.

From my very first interview at Hectaar, it just felt right. The role matched exactly what I was looking for, but it was the company culture that convinced me most: warm, human and open. I quickly realized that commitment and enthusiasm are genuinely valued here, and that teamwork is central. To this day, I’m still very glad I made that choice.

What achievements are you particularly proud of and why?

The launch of our new website in September was a key milestone for me. I was closely involved from start to finish and learned a lot throughout the process. I’m proud not only of the final result but also of the journey leading up to it. I also look back with satisfaction on our brand identity project. It strengthened and aligned our branding, which is now visible across all communication. From social media to ads and brochures — everything tells one consistent story. As a marketer, I get a lot of energy from projects that make a long-term impact — and these truly do.

How does Hectaar work to promote a positive team culture?

We place great importance on a positive team culture. We regularly organize moments to get to know each other outside work, such as an Easter breakfast, after-work drinks at “Bar Hectaar,” a barbecue, Saint Nicholas celebrations at the office and team-building events. There are also sports initiatives like the annual obstacle run, a monthly spinning session and, more recently, training for a half marathon with a few sporty colleagues.

These moments bring us together in a relaxed way and strengthen collaboration. Everyone at Hectaar is positive and engaged, always ready to help and to celebrate each other’s successes. That’s why I genuinely enjoy starting my workday every morning.

What advice would you give to new colleagues who have just started at Hectaar?

Taking initiative is appreciated, and people are always willing to help. If you enjoy teamwork and want to keep learning, you’ll feel right at home here. You’ll join a motivated team that communicates openly, supports one another and makes sure you feel welcome quickly.

What are you most looking forward to in your future at Hectaar?

I’m excited to keep developing our marketing and grow alongside Hectaar’s geographical expansion. I’m eager to strengthen our brand further, reach new audiences and create original campaigns. We’re also positioning “Bouwen Op Maat” more strongly in the market. It’s rewarding to see everything grow step by step — and to actively contribute to that growth.

What is your favorite Hectaar project?

Our Blue Block office remains my absolute favourite. It’s a beautiful and pleasant workspace with a warm interior — it makes working there enjoyable every day.

Within our portfolio, “De Gendarmerie” in Bruges really stands out to me. Transforming an old police station into stylish apartments created a project full of character. The mix of history and modern comfort makes it something special — and from a marketing perspective, it’s a great story to showcase.

What is your Hectaar Highlight?

Moving into our new office was a real highlight. It symbolized our growth and gave the team a fresh start in a space that truly reflects our identity. I’m also proud of the marketing progress we’ve made: stronger branding, a new website and greater brand recognition. It’s incredibly satisfying to see the impact of our work and how we reach more people every day.
