An L-shaped home with optimal privacy, 4 bedrooms, an extra bathroom, and above all, no worries during the construction process. Jill and Guanael turned to Hectaar for this. Their experience with Bouwen op Maat from Hectaar? Jill is happy to share it herself.

How did you get in touch with Hectaar?

We had already made plans with another company but wanted a second opinion and a price comparison. As the first alderman of groot-Kortemark, my father knew that the municipality received many complaints about certain construction companies, but not a single one about Hectaar. My sister-in-law works with her father in their painting business and they also experience Hectaar as a reliable construction partner. We were quickly convinced to request a proposal here as well. When the price turned out to be more favorable than the other company's, our choice was quickly made.

Why did you choose Bouwen op Maat?

The house we just sold, we renovated entirely by ourselves. We didn’t want to go through that again. We wanted to delegate everything to avoid any worries.

How was the initial meeting?

Very positive, we felt at ease right away. The first meetings were always with Thibaut and Louise and were very pleasant. We could ask all our questions and always received clear answers.

How did the design phase of your home go?

This also went very smoothly. We had a few elements that definitely needed to be included in our home, such as an office and an extra bathroom. Everything was beautifully integrated into the design. In the other company's proposal, the extra bathroom on the ground floor was arranged differently, resulting in a lot of wasted space. Hectaar’s approach was much better.

What other aspects were important in the design?

We missed a few things in our previous home. Those exact things were important for the new design. Besides an extra bedroom – 4 in total – we needed an extra bathroom. By choosing an open-plan kitchen, we avoided me cooking alone all the time. We also wanted a space for an office to handle paperwork and a separate toilet upstairs, not located in the bathroom.

Hectaar took all those requirements into account and the design exceeded our expectations. For example, we found the dressing room in our bedroom fantastic. Initially, it was just planned as part of the hallway. The architect suggested putting up an extra wall, which suddenly made our bedroom much larger and created a separate dressing room. Shrinking the hallway a bit wasn’t an issue; that space would have been lost anyway.

Did you already have an idea of what you wanted your home to look like? Where did you get your inspiration for the finishing touches?

Since we had already designed an entire house, we knew what we wanted: an L-shaped home. This way, our privacy is optimally protected from the adjacent apartment block.

How did you experience the construction process?

Very positively! At the start, we mentally prepared for quite a few setbacks because you often hear about those when building. Fortunately, that was unnecessary. Project leader Sofie did an excellent job in both overseeing the construction process and communicating with us. We received many updates, which kept us well-informed about what was happening in our house.

I don’t think many people can say they built a house without a single setback. Thank you for that!

Were there any adjustments needed during the execution phase, and how did the construction team handle them?

The mirror in the bathroom was hung a bit too high, but it was fixed the next day. That was the only adjustment during the execution phase. We had no issues with it.

How did the decision-making process for the finishing of the house go?

The decision-making process went smoothly. We got a good overview of the companies we could visit. Communication was always clear, even via email. Furthermore, the partners went above and beyond. Initially, we would have had to either divide a large window into two parts or replace it with a sliding window. Neither of these options really excited us. Luckily, a supplier was found who could make the window in one piece.

How satisfied are you with Hectaar’s work?

We are 100% satisfied; it has become a dream home. Most visitors are impressed. Everything looks very good. Of course, we will only be able to truly judge the quality once we live here, but everything seems very promising.

Do you have any tips for those considering Bouwen op Maat with Hectaar?

Don't hesitate, just do it! I don’t think you can find a better construction company. Who can say they built without stress? We certainly can.
