First homes launched in 'Het Heldenkwartier'
153 new-build homes in a sustainable green living area
The first eighteen semi-detached and terraced houses of this ambitious project on the Gitsestraat are already under construction. Our largest project ever to date, in our own hometown, will consist of no less than 153 homes. In early 2024, the first residents will settle in the green residential area of 5.5 hectares.
The distinctive name of the project refers to an important moment in the history of Roeselare. In ‘The Heroes' Quarter,’ the streets are named after the brave fighters who helped liberate the city at the end of the Second World War. Thus, General Maczek, leader of the first Polish armored division, and Simonne Brugghe, a Roeselare resistance heroine, have already received a fitting tribute.
153 homes
The housing project includes 153 residences, comprising 115 single-family houses, 18 apartments, and 20 maisonettes. Plots vary between 160 and 360 square meters, with each home offering a garden or terrace and a garage or carport. Eleven of the first eighteen houses will have a carport, and seven will have a garage. The project's location, close to the Roeselare city center and conveniently situated near the highway, makes it an excellent base.

Sustainable and green
Sustainability was an important principle in the project design. Fourteen percent of the total area will be contiguous public green space, located within a 300-meter radius of every residential unit. A focus is also placed on slow traffic, with new cycling paths being constructed. All homes will be connected to the district heating network, making it a particularly energy-efficient new construction project.
Launch of first homes
In the spring of 2021, archaeological research was already conducted on the site, followed by roadworks commencing. Currently, the groundwork is in full swing, and the first eighteen semi-detached and terraced houses are under construction, allowing the first residents to move in at the beginning of 2024. In the next phase, the construction of the next six semi-detached and three terraced houses on Gitsestraat will also begin, bringing the project closer to completion. The prices of the first homes start from €271,000.
