The H-team: Meet Lukas
From purchase file to the start of the work, he ensures a smooth progress of each project
Lukas has been a key figure at Hectaar as a project developer for two and a half years. With his down-to-earth approach and initiative, he guides projects from the initial purchase files to permits and preparations for execution. What drives him? Seeing how an idea becomes reality step by step, together with the colleagues around him. Curious about how Lukas ended up at Hectaar and what motivates him every day? Discover his story.
Could you introduce yourself?
I am Lukas Debal, 26 years old, and I live with my girlfriend in Kortrijk, the city where I was born and raised. After my studies, I looked for a job with substance, responsibility, and especially growth opportunities within the construction sector. That's how I ended up at Hectaar, and it still feels like a very good match.
In my free time, I try to stay active. I love being on the move; it helps me clear my head after a busy workweek. On the weekend, I like to make time for friends and family. Going out for a drink, catching up, and laughing together is the perfect way for me to relax and recharge my batteries.
What role do you play within Hectaar and how long have you been active here?
I've been working at Hectaar as a project developer for two and a half years now. What I enjoy about this role is the variety. One day, I'm analyzing and negotiating purchase files, the next day I'm following up on a permit process or working on the preparation for execution.
Additionally, I am in contact with different teams, such as execution and sales. This makes the work not only interesting but also very tangible. You feel you are building something together and that each project is truly a team effort.
How did you end up at Hectaar?
I got to know Hectaar through mutual friends of colleagues who were already working here. Their stories and positive experiences made me curious, so I decided to get acquainted. During that first meeting, I immediately felt a connection. The atmosphere, the ambition, and the way of working all appealed to me. From that moment, my decision was quickly made.
What achievements are you particularly proud of and why?
I can't point to one project as the project I'm most proud of because each journey has its own challenges and learning moments. I do closely follow the projects I've purchased myself. There is automatically some extra personal involvement because you put your shoulders under it from the start.
What gives me the most satisfaction is seeing how a project grows. First, there is an idea and a file, then come the negotiations, the preparations, the permits, and all the steps needed to make it truly feasible. Many people mainly see the end result, but behind the scenes, a lot of work and time lead up to the moment a project becomes visible and can effectively start. It's this evolution from plan to reality that makes me proud.
How does Hectaar work to promote a positive team culture?
At Hectaar, the collegial atmosphere is an important part of the work culture. We regularly make time to stay after work to chat or go for a drink together. These are often the moments when you get to know each other better. Additionally, there are also sportive initiatives, like spinning together. These informal moments make collaboration smoother and more enjoyable and make you feel at home here quickly.
What advice would you give to new colleagues who have just started at Hectaar?
My main advice: dare to take the initiative. Don't wait too long, but ask questions, think along, and express your ideas. If you see something that can be improved or have a proposal, feel free to bring it up. What I find very positive here is that everyone is open to discussion. There is constructive listening, and good ideas are genuinely picked up. Those who are proactive can quickly learn and progress here.
What are you most looking forward to in your future at Hectaar?
I am especially looking forward to further developing myself in project development and expanding my experience. Each project brings new challenges, and that's what motivates me. Additionally, it energizes me to further develop the projects currently in the pipeline and ultimately realize them successfully. The prospect of many exciting projects ahead makes me look to the future with great enthusiasm.
What is your favorite Hectaar project currently for sale?
That would be Residence Alizée. It is the first apartment building on the coast that I have purchased and developed myself, giving it extra meaning for me. You not only contribute professionally but also feel a kind of pride because you have experienced the journey up close. The project was recently launched and is currently for sale on our website. It's nice to see the end result now really visible and to notice that the project is "on the market." That remains a special moment.
